Demo Walkthrough

The Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter demo went live in August 2026. Players can download it on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam. It is about ten hours with no time limit, covering the prologue A Young Girl’s Decision through Chapter 1 A Looming Shadow. If you still need spoiler context for 1st Chapter, read getting started first. This is a structure guide, not a beat-by-beat script, and it does not invent enemy HP or unconfirmed quartz names.

Prologue: A Young Girl’s Decision

The prologue is Estelle’s first stretch after 1st Chapter. Treat it as orientation, not a speedrun. Talk to bracer-family NPCs, open the notebook, and get used to moving a party through town and highway maps. Rolent is the emotional home base; even if the plot pulls you outward, the demo still uses that region as a reference point. If you imported 1st Chapter clear data, check the costume menu early so Classic Style SC outfits for Estelle and Joshua are actually equipped rather than sitting unseen.

Do not skip every roadside fight. The trial is the only place you can practice Quick Battle versus Command Battle before September 17 with no purchase. The combat system explains Brave Rush (two Brave Gauge points, active character plus a partner) and why you should not empty the gauge on the first wolf. Orbments already have seven slots; if you find quartz, park it using the orbment guide instead of filling every hole with the first attack stone you see.

Chapter 1: A Looming Shadow

Chapter 1 expands the map into Ruan and Grancel in addition to Rolent. Expect bracer work, city streets, and the feeling that Liberl is larger than a single highway. Early Ouroboros Enforcers appear in this window. You will not get a damage table here. Conceptually, treat an Enforcer as a boss who can use Enforcer Boost — an advanced Rage Boost — so Command Battle, Arts, and Brave Rush matter more than mashing Quick Battle. Party identity for those fights is on party members; society context is on Ouroboros.

Ruan’s waterfront is the easiest place to check designated fishing spots. Grancel is for shops, uniforms, and bracer jobs — not an open-world checklist. Poker, cooking, and fishing are real in the demo; details sit on side content.

Le Locle Canyon training

Senior bracer training at Le Locle Canyon is the demo’s skill exam. Go there when the story sends you, not before you understand Crafts. The canyon is a contained teaching space: tighter encounters, instructors who expect you to use the new battle layer, and a reminder that Estelle is still earning rank. Use Command Battle when a fight has more than one threatening enemy. Save Brave Rush for a partner combo that hits a wide group rather than a single leftover monster.

Le Locle is also a good place to test cooking buffs. Some dishes buff Quick Battles; if you swap to Command Battle the buff lasts up to two turns. Failures can create Attack Food that deals damage in Command Battle with no CP or EP cost. That loop is explained next to fishing in side content and again in combat terms on the combat page.

What the demo includes — and what it does not

Included: story through Chapter 1, Rolent / Ruan / Grancel travel, Le Locle training, early Enforcers, fishing, poker, and cooking. There is no timer forcing you to quit. Excluded: Viewer Mode and Movie Viewer. Do not spend the trial hunting a photo studio; those tools unlock with the full game’s story. Costume and accessory posing is a post-demo topic.

Demo patch 1.00.1 (August 26) fixed a fishing crash, restored Olivier’s English voice during his song, and addressed miscellaneous bugs. If your build predates that patch, update before you blame the rod. Broader trial notes live on demo updates. Steam users can enable AMD FSR 2.2; Deck reports of 40–50 FPS on Medium are on system requirements.

Carry-over and how to finish without rushing

Story progress, levels, and inventory carry into the full game through a title-screen load or transfer. That is the whole point of playing the trial carefully. Do not sell unique-looking items to tidy the bag. Do not skip notebook entries you can still finish. Do not treat the last Enforcer as a cue to quit the moment the credits-style break appears — walk the last town once more, cook anything still in the recipe list, and hit one designated fishing spot with a rod and bait combo you have not tried.

A non-rushed clear looks like this. Finish prologue talk in Rolent. Learn Brave Rush on regular enemies before Chapter 1 bosses. Complete Le Locle as a student, not as a skippable dungeon. In Ruan and Grancel, do the bracer jobs the story hands you, then spend leftover time on fishing, poker, and cooking rather than grinding for a number this wiki will not invent. Keep the save transfer steps in mind so the file you create is the file you will load in September.

When the demo is done, you should have a party you understand, a seventh-slot orbment you did not fill at random, and a tidy file for September. Rankings can wait for the party tier list. Launch timing sits on the release date page. Leave the trial the way a bracer leaves a branch office: notebook updated, rod stowed, costumes checked, and one save you trust.
