Prologue through Chapter 1, carry-over into the full game, and the systems Falcom left out of the trial.

Demo News

The Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter demo went live in August 2026 on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. It is a substantial slice of the remake, not a five-minute attract-mode reel. Falcom’s trial page puts the length at about ten hours, from Prologue: A Young Girl’s Decision through the end of Chapter 1: A Looming Shadow. There is no timer. You can fish, cook, poke around Rolent, Ruan, and Grancel, and finish senior bracer training at Le Locle Canyon at your own pace.

The trial spoils Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter. Falcom and GungHo recommend finishing that remake first. If you still need an on-ramp, use Getting Started and the demo walkthrough before you import anything.

Platforms and the Switch 2 caveat

There is no dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 demo. The Switch 1 trial is playable on Switch 2 through backward compatibility, so picture quality follows the Switch build. At launch, some New Zealand Nintendo eShop listings lagged other regions — a storefront delay, not a cancelled trial. Steam and PlayStation Store were the fallback.

What you can do in the trial

Estelle’s search for Joshua starts after the Liberl coup, with early Ouroboros Enforcers. Combat uses field encounters, Quick Battle, and Command Battle, including linked Brave Rush. Quartz and orbments already work, so the combat system and orbment guide apply. Fishing, poker, and cooking are in the demo; see side content.

Loading clear data from Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter inside the demo unlocks Classic Style SC costumes for Estelle and Joshua at the start. Those outfits are cosmetic. They are not a story skip.

What is missing

Official trial notes are explicit:

  • Viewer Mode is not in the demo.
  • Movie Mode is not in the demo.
  • Some specifications may differ from the final version.

Do not plan a photo studio, costume gallery, or full opening-movie replay inside the trial. Those tools wait for the complete build. If a friend sends a Viewer Mode screenshot, that is full-game or marketing footage, not something you can recreate on the August trial.

Carry-over into the full game

Falcom says any save data created in the demo can transfer to the full version. Story progress, levels, and inventory are the practical payload. After September 17, update the full game first, then:

  • PlayStation 5 and Steam: use Load Game on the title screen.
  • Nintendo Switch: use Transfer on the title screen.

You must use the same PlayStation Network account or Nintendo account. On PlayStation 5, trophies cannot be earned on a transferred demo save. Steam achievements follow Steam’s own rules; do not assume they mirror that PS5 exception.

The save transfer page covers 1st Chapter clear data, demo carry-over, and platform mismatches in one checklist.

Patch 1.00.1 and later demo fixes

Demo Version 1.00.1 (Steam news dated August 26, 2026) fixed:

  • Occasional crashes when starting the fishing minigame.
  • Olivier’s English voice failing to play during his song sequence.
  • Miscellaneous bugs.

Demo Version 1.00.2 (Steam news dated September 3, 2026) fixed an issue where S-Crafts could sometimes not be acquired after battle. Patch the trial before you carry a save into the full game.

If fishing still hard-locks, confirm the demo is on 1.00.2 or newer, then follow on-screen timing in controls. Keep the trial patched; carry-over should ride the newest demo file, not an abandoned crashy save.

How to play the demo well

Finish or at least understand 1st Chapter, import clear data if you have it, and play on the platform you intend to buy. Spend time on orbments and Brave Rush instead of rushing the chapter boss. Fish after 1.00.1; notebook entries still matter for side content. Stop at the Chapter 1 credits knowing Viewer Mode is still locked.

Hardware questions belong in PC requirements. Party planning sits with party members. Edition prices are on the preorder page; the worldwide date is on release date.

The demo is a dress rehearsal for Liberl, not a spoiler-free trailer. Treat Le Locle, the first Enforcer clash, and Olivier’s song as content you will keep. When the full game arrives September 17, 2026, the only extra step should be Load Game or Transfer — not replaying ten hours because the trial file sat on the wrong account.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for demo players and anyone waiting on the September launch.

How long is the Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter demo?

Falcom lists about ten hours from the prologue through Chapter 1, with no timer. Use the demo walkthrough if you want a route through Rolent, Ruan, Grancel, and Le Locle.

Does demo progress carry into the full game?

Yes. PS5 and Steam load from Load Game; Switch uses Transfer. Update the full game first and stay on the same account. Full steps are in save transfer.

Is Viewer Mode in the demo?

No. Viewer Mode and Movie Mode are omitted. Combat, fishing, and orbments are present; see combat and side content.

What did patches 1.00.1 and 1.00.2 fix?

1.00.1 fixed fishing crashes and Olivier's missing English voice. 1.00.2 fixed S-Crafts sometimes failing to unlock after battle. Details stay on this page and in updates.

Is there a Switch 2 demo?

No separate Switch 2 trial. Play the Switch demo on Switch 2 via backward compatibility. Platform notes also sit on the release date page.

Can PS5 trophies drop on a transferred demo save?

Falcom says trophies cannot be earned after transferring demo data on PS5. Plan a fresh file if you care about trophies, then keep using guides for the story route.
